I’ve been to the Filmmaking in Cork Meetup a couple of times before. It’s a great way for filmmakers to gather. There is normally a screening of a film or films and the writer, director or someone closely involved with the film is there to present it and there’s usually a Q&A afterwards. It can be a very educational evening learning about what filmmakers went through to get the job done.
An interesting topic that came up at one of the last meet-ups was food on set. Gerard McAuliffe, a producer as well as organiser of the meet-up, gave a talk about a film he had worked on in Galway. He highlighted the need to feed cast and crew with tasty yet cost efficient food. I’d never thought about it until then but it’s actually a very important aspect of a lot of events – keeping people fed without spending all your budget on that.
When I saw that Filmmaking in Cork were doing a Film Feast where some food would be served and there would be some discussion afterwards I had to say yes to it ….
